For many individuals who have mental health issues life can be like living in a glass bottle. A glass bottle is fragile, glass distorts how a person sees and how they are seen. Broken glass cuts, it pierces, it hurts and so people live a life that seeks to stop the glass being broken. Or they get to a point where they want the glass to break and escape its confines only for life, for society to put them in another bottle.
Everywhere you go there are people in their glass bottles avoiding things that will expose them to harm, though the isolation is crippling, it is better to be alone than to be hurt. Variations of ‘I am a rock, I am an island’ go through their minds, and a rock feels no pain and an island never cries’. Only they do feel pain and they do cry, but only to themselves, and even then they do it quietly so nobody hears.
So what do we do?
