We are nearly a fifth of the way through the present century. The 21st, I know I’m good for knowing that. I will take my bow later.
But what has this new century brought us, this new millennia?
I look at the world and I see an increase in poverty, racism, anger, xenophobia, hatred, homelessness and mental health problems.
I see a decrease in resources, funding, services, compassion, tolerance and common sense.
Where does this leave individuals with mental health problems? Struggling to cope, unable to access services, denied benefits and more isolated. These are for many dangerous times, dangerous because intolerance has grown, increasing stigma and making it harder for people to feel ‘safe’.
The language has become more venomous, talk of ‘rape’ being okay to joke about, anti LGBTQ rhetoric, blatant intolerance of people from minority and diverse backgrounds. Populism and soundbites shouting over truth, evidence and science.
The purpose of this post is to simply say that I am not adding my voice to the shouting, I am not going to be indifferent to peoples hurts and I am not going to tolerate racism, hatred and lies.
I am going to be a humane human. What about you?
